Momentum is a registered charity established in 2004 which aims to help children and their families who have cancer or other life threatening conditions.

When a child is diagnosed, as a parent you feel utterly helpless and isolated. You and your family are plunged into a state of complete anxiety and fear and the lives of everyone within your family are turned upside down.

Momentum was established by parents who have first hand experience of coping with the trauma of their child being diagnosed with a life threatening condition. Our simple aim is to help others in a similar circumstance.

Your child will typically have to have regular hospital treatment. This may include scans, biopsies, chemotherapy, blood tests, lumbar punctures, treatment can last for many months or even years.

Long stays in hospital whilst undergoing treatment are common. Your child’s ability to socialise or attend school may also be affected.

What does Momentum do?

Momentum assists children and their families in the following ways:

Through the provision of equipment and the improvement of the facilities in isolation rooms where children undergoing medical treatment will typically spend prolonged periods.

By organising events at which sick children and their siblings have the opportunity to meet with other children and share their experiences.

By offering mutual support for parents and families.

Since its inception Momentum has focussed on improving the facilities for children at Kingston Hospital, particularly the isolation rooms. Momentum has provided toys, televisions, computer equipment, air conditioning, refurbished the parents kitchen and continues to improve facilities for both parents and children.

Momentum is run by volunteers and is wholly reliant on the kind donations and support of individuals and companies to further its work.
